sweet

My friend Jim is writing a piece for me. It's based on the G mjor Bach cello suite. There will be a prelude and then a bunch of dances. The Allemande will likely be transformed into "Allemande Left!" and so forth. I'm pretty excited about this piece.

Lots of things are going on, but nothing I really am dying to write about. So. we'll go to a restaurant review!

Gil's K-9 Bar.

A couple weeks ago, Jack and I went to Gil's K-9 Bar, an establishment located on a semi-derelict portion of Fairview Road in Boise. The building itself is a plain brown box, windowless and dark. I'm not certain I'd want to go here in the evening.

Jack and I went in, and sat down at a table. There were several clients already inside, enjoying a liquid lunch. Our waitress came over, said she didn't have any menus, but then told us what was available. There was the usual burger and fries, a chicken sandwich, a french dip, and then something called 'halibut chunks'. I'm usually not in favor of ordering chunks of anything, so I got the french dip, while Jack had the burger. We waited around a few minutes, trying to figure out the scoring system on the shuffleboard game, and with almost magical speed, our meals arrived.

I can happily report that Gil's K-9 Bar delivers excellent bar food. The french dip was a nice combination of thinly sliced beef, and lightly grilled bread, with a nice fresh au jus. Jack clearly enjoyed his burger. The fries were crisp and hot, and the salad I ordered was cold and crunchy. I would definitely go back to Gil's. Next time, I'll have to try the chunks.
