mahler
This weekend, we performed Mahler's First Symphony. For the un-informed, there is a big offstage trumpet fanfare near the beginning of the first movement. After playing this, the players have to get themselves back onstage for continued trumpetiness.
Offstage trumpet things are not that odd. Plus, I know for a fact that something about offstage trumpets was mentioned in the program notes. So imagine my delight when our executive director passed these audience comments on to us!
“You need to dock the pay of the trumpet players because they arrived on stage
late for the Mahler. Very unprofessional behavior.”
“Why couldn’t the trumpet players get to the stage on time for the beginning of the
Mahler? Very distracting to have them arrive late.”
“The trumpet players were late and had to play their first notes from offstage.
Really threw off the balance.”
Ha! The thing that is scary is that the board will take these same audience members comments about the conductors that have been coming in, and give them serious consideration. Ugh.

we're preforming Mahler 1 next weekend. I love how the trumpets start offstage, it really gives it a neat sound.

My orchestra's performing Mahler 1 in May. I wonder if we'll get responses like that...
Mahler 1 makes me think of Captain Kirk. Maybe those audience members were on another planet when the announcement was made?
bwa ha ha ha ha! That was too funny. :)
By the way, my boyfriend, Michael says to tell you to say hi to Sparky II.
Aloha from across the ocean! Oh, wait. Idaho isn't near the ocean, huh? :D
